Biography of Nancy McCredie
Nancy McCredie was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Her father was in the Air Force and the family lived in different locations throughout Canada over the years. The family cottage is located in Norway Bay, Quebec and she has spent summers there for most of her life.
Nan (as she prefers to be called) was former Pan-American, British Empire and Olympic athlete in shot-put and discus for Canada and is in the Brampton Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, among others.
She was a singer with the Benny Louis Orchestra at The Royal York Hotel as well as Casa Loma and The Seaway Towers in Toronto, Ontario for three years.
Nan has always been a lover of animals, birds and reptiles for as long as any one can remember. She is a pet groomer and was a breeder of Yorkie-Poo dogs (Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle mix) for about 25 to 30 years, a farmer that raised Quarter Horses, Polled Herefords, purebred Pigs and worked on the side (while pet grooming and owing her own pet shop) for the Humane Society of Brampton saving and raising baby animals to be released back into the wild when they were old enough to fend for themselves.
She now resides in Bristol, Quebec where she relocated in 2001. Nan lives in the area that she has always wanted to (although not by the water) and devotes her time and energy to her artwork (self-taught) in acrylics and oils as well as sculpting in polymer clay.
Nan still takes in animals that need new home and birds that require nurturing and rehabilitation until they are ready to go free again.
Nan “will never change” as she will so often say. We all know that truer words were never spoken and commend her for her efforts in all her past and future endeavours.
